What is Trend Micro OS Protection?
It is an add-on to Trend Micro Internet Security product that is optimized for Windows Vista. It includes two components – Trend Micro Firewall Booster and Trend Micro Pre-Startup Scan.
What is Trend Micro Firewall Booster?
It enables Trend Micro Internet Security to take advantage of Windows Vista Firewall capabilities. Customers will see enhanced performance, because there is no dual firewall issue with Windows Vista.
What is Trend Micro Pre-Startup Scan?
Trend Micro Pre-Startup Scan is a third type of scanning methodology, in addition to real-time scan and manual scan. Trend Micro Pre-Startup Scan finds and eliminates hard-to-remove threats like rootkits before Windows starts, so such threats have no time to affect a computers performance or evade detection and removal.
Does it start automatically?
Customers can control when and what type of scan to run. There are two types of scanning options. One is Quick Scan, which takes only minutes and detects all boot-related and browser-related malware. The other is Full Scan, which can take 30 minutes to an hour and provides thorough scan of all the files within a computer’s hard disk. However, there is an option under Full Scan that allows the computer to automatically shut down after the scan is completed.
So, the scan happens before Windows boots?
Yes. Customers can initiate the scan before rebooting the system, and the scan is completed while the system is booting up.
What if I want to go back to a previous setting?
Trend Micro Pre-Startup Scan automatically creates a restore point to back up a computer’s system setting before initiating a scan. This feature provides end users additional control and peace of mind should they wish to undo any changes made during the Pre-Startup Scan. Two types of scan are provided.
Where can I get it?
It is available for free in www.trendsecure.com in English. However, a customer will need Trend Micro Internet Security 2007 installed on his/her computer to run it.
Why do you call it Beta?
It is a feature complete version. However, because of the sophisticated nature of the functionality, we’d like for as many customers to download and try it and give us feedback. So we’re offering it as a part of beta program.
Trend Micro OS Protection is in English. Can I run this on a non-English OS?
Customers can run it in non-English OS environments such as Japanese. Customers will see the English User Interface.
